STUDY FINDS LINK BETWEEN FACEBOOK USE, LOWER GRADES IN COLLEGE
SAN DIEGO – College students who use Facebook spend less time studying and have lower grade point averages than students who have not signed up for the social networking website, according to a pilot study at one university.
However, more than three-quarters of Facebook users claimed that their use of the social networking site didn’t interfere with their studies.
“We can’t say that use of Facebook leads to lower grades and less studying – but we did find a relationship there,” said Aryn Karpinski, co-author of the study and a doctoral student in education at Ohio State University.

ReplyDeleteThere is no need to waste tax payers' money to find out what any mother knows. She sees her son or daughter come home in the evening and spend two hours on facebook and than has dinner and sits at the PC and windows pop up all the time asking you to click on the people who are on line. This goes on all night until the wee hours.
It sounds so tiring just looking at such people. Where got time to study, reflect, talk face to face with family and friends. It is so cold so detached so unhealthy.
I suppose another study could be commissioned to find out that people who use facebook all the time end up socially unfit and go into depression at a higher and higher rate. I am just waiting for this to come out from San Diego sooner than later.
I know intuitively such things as I feel it in my bones.

ReplyDeleteThe irony of it is that facebook itself is a means of socialising.
This study doesn't at all explore the negative social aspects at all - just the negative effect it has on academic performance.
